Cheveng Scholarship

BRITISH CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS 2008 – 2009

funded by the British government and administered by the British Council

Applications are invited for the British Chevening Scholarships for the academic year 2008-2009. Candidates from any discipline may apply but the scholarships are likely to focus on the following areas: politics, economics, environmental sciences, public administration, law, human rights, international relations and engineering.

Candidates seeking advice on courses in the United Kingdom which might best suit their needs should consult education.uk.org .Please note that some universities require course applications to be presented no later than 31 January 2008, so where necessary candidates should make their own applications directly and in good time. Please note also that admission to a course does not in itself make a candidate more eligible for a scholarship.

  • The scholarships are for a maximum of twelve months and are mainly, but not exclusively, designed to support the pursuit of a master’s degree or a postgraduate diploma.
  • Candidates must have a high level of written and spoken English: those called for interview will be given an English language screening test in December 2007. Candidates successful at interview will be required to take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) written and oral examinations.
  • Candidates must be Sudanese nationals.

How to Apply

Please submit ONLY the following documents:

  • a curriculum vitae of not more than two A4 pages;
  • Not more than one additional A4 page explaining which subject you wish to study and why,   how it relates to your professional and personal objectives, and how, after returning to Sudan, you would expect to apply the skills and experience gained
  • A complete Chevening Application Form, which can be downloaded from the British Council website
  • Submission of incomplete Chevening Application Forms will not be considered.
  • All documents for submission should be in English and typed or written neatly and clearly in black ink.
  • Any additional documents submitted, will be discarded. No certificates, diplomas or testimonials are needed at this level.

Any pages in excess of these three, and any additional documents submitted, will be discarded.

Applications should be received no later than 1400hr on Thursday 22 November 2007. Candidates may hand in their applications to the British Council at 14 Abu Sinn Street, Khartoum or send them by post, e-mail or fax. Candidates who are short listed for interview will hear from us by Thursday 7th of December 2007.
